What is a giclée print?

Hey there,

So you might be an artist wondering whether you should be stocking Giclée prints or maybe you are thinking about buying a Giclée from my shop today and wondering what the difference is...so here is a quick run down of what it means!

I offer two types of print, my 'Gallery' prints are created by me from home on a Canon TS series printer using Fotospeed paper. This is really great quality for a home print and looks and feels beautiful, however it is able to be produced at lower cost making it perfect for your gallery walls and any space where you want to add a pop of colour.

A Giclée print is more of a luxury item which is created in a professional printing lab, using a specific type of process. Meaning 'to spray' in French, Giclée are printed with a fine inkjet spray using multiple heads to create the best possible colour match to the original artwork.

The ink must be archival (pigment not dye) which lasts a lifetime and will never fade or change colour in the sunlight.

It is the sort of quality you use for a museum or art gallery piece, and for that reason it has to be made specially and will be of a much higher cost to produce. My customers tend to buy Giclée prints for a wedding gift or special treat for themselves knowing that it is something to be treasured for years to come.
